About
Rohit Malhotra joined the board of Nirvaan Pharmaceuticals as an independent director in 2026 and chairs its audit committee. He spent the operating part of his career in pharmaceutical finance, including nine years as chief financial officer of a mid-cap formulations business.
He sits on three boards and has said he will not take a fourth, on the grounds that an independent director who cannot read the full board pack twice is a governance risk rather than a governance control.
Malhotra has been publicly critical of the quality of related-party disclosure in Indian mid-cap pharmaceuticals, an area where he has pushed for a stricter internal standard than the listing rules require.
Leadership perspective
- How many boards is too many?
- One more than you can read for. The pack arrives on a Friday and runs to three hundred pages. If you are on five boards you are not reading them, you are being briefed on them, and that is a different job.
- Where is Indian mid-cap governance weakest?
- Related-party disclosure. Compliant and informative are not the same standard, and most of the sector is comfortably clearing the first one.
