About
Neha Kapoor has spent nineteen years working on the unglamorous half of brand building: distribution maths, pack economics and the slow accumulation of household trust. She joined Suvarna Consumer Brands in 2024 to lead marketing across a portfolio that reaches roughly forty million households, and has since folded the company’s separate digital and trade marketing teams into a single demand organisation.
Her early career was built in general trade. She spent six years at Tamarind Foods running regional launches in Maharashtra and Gujarat, a period she describes as the most useful of her working life because it forced her to defend marketing spend to distributors who could see the returns on a weekly basis. She moved into national brand roles in 2016 and led the repositioning of a mass detergent line that had lost share for four consecutive years.
At Suvarna she has argued internally against the industry reflex to treat quick commerce as a separate channel with its own P&L, on the grounds that it fragments pricing decisions. She sits on the company’s pricing committee and mentors through an industry programme for women moving into their first P&L role.
Leadership perspective
- What does a CMO owe the finance team?
- A number they can audit. If I cannot explain what a campaign did to gross margin within a quarter, I have not finished the work — I have only finished the fun part of it.
- What has changed most in Indian consumer marketing in the last five years?
- The gap between intent and purchase collapsed. A household used to decide on Sunday and buy on Wednesday. That gap was where advertising lived. Now it is ten minutes, and most brand teams have not rebuilt for it.
- What do you look for when you hire?
- Someone who has been personally responsible for a number that went the wrong way. That teaches a kind of judgement that a strong CV cannot.
